Love Pickle. Stop Cancer. tournament to help St. Jude research in RVA
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from a special guest on Thursday to talk about the Love Pickle. Stop Cancer. pickleball tournament coming to the area next weekend.
8News anchors Autumn Childress and Madison Moore were joined by Caroline Coblar, senior advisor for area development with St. Jude in Virginia, to talk about what people can expect.
"We thought it would be great to have an event that's community focused, that's inclusive that's fun for everyone to come and join, all ages," Coblar said. "We know that pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States right now, and we thought that that was the perfect opportunity for us to not only host a really fun tournament, but also spread awareness about the mission of St. Jude and the community of Richmond."
The first-ever Love Pickle. Stop Cancer. St. Jude Pickleball Tournament & Celebration will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Performance Pickleball RVA, located at 8641 Quioccasin Road.
All proceeds from the event will go towards St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and their efforts to provide care for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
