Lunenburg officer accused of shooting woman in domestic incident now in custody
LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Lunenburg County police officer accused of shooting a woman during a domestic incident has been taken into custody.
At about 2:43 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, the Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office, the Kenbridge Police Department and Virginia State Police were called to Kenbridge Station 7 for report of a woman who arrived at the station with a gunshot wound.
According to state police, it was determined that someone shot into the woman's vehicle multiple times as part of a domestic incident. She then drove herself to the station for help.
The woman was taken to an area hospital via helicopter for further treatment of her injuries.

A Kenbridge police officer, 44-year-old Charles Aaron Stokes of Lunenburg, was named as the suspect in this shooting.
State police launched a manhunt for Stokes, with law enforcement soon finding his car outside of a business in Henderson, North Carolina. A 2007 silver Honda Civic was reported stolen from the scene, with state police saying it was believed that Stokes had taken it.
The next day, at about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, Stokes was taken into custody at a Kenbridge residence. He has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
As of the time of reporting, Stokes is being held at the Meherrin River Regional Jail.

Stokes was off-duty at the time the shooting took place, per state police.
