Man arrested, charged in connection to shooting at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights that injured a 22-year-old man. On Thursday, Dec. 19, 30-year-old Devener Juwan Grice, of Petersburg, was arrested and charged in connection to the mall shooting. At around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, Colonial Heights Police officers responded to the report of a person shot at Southpark Mall. According to police, officers arrived and found a 22-year-old man shot in his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Following an investigation, Colonial Heights Police detectives identified the suspect as Grice. On Thursday, members of the Colonial Heights Police Department, along with Virginia State Police and Petersburg Bureau of Police, conducted a search warrant in the 600 block of Dakar Avenue in Petersburg and arrested Grice. According to police, he has been charged with the following: Felony malicious wounding Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon Felony reckless handling of a firearm Shooting in an occupied dwelling The Colonial Heights Police Department said it will continue to investigate this incident, and anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant J.M.
