Man charged with second-degree murder following deadly shooting of 15-year-old

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a shooting that killed a 15-year-old girl on Sunday.

According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, 30-year-old Roberto Pierre Elias Zaldivar has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection to the death of a 15-year-old girl.

Elias Zaldivar, of Colonial Heights, is reportedly hospitalized and is in the custody of the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office.

At 12:22 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to the 6300 block of Pewter Avenue for a report of a person who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old girl, who appeared to be an adult, and Elias Zaldivar, who both had gunshot wounds in a vehicle.

Officials said the female victim's identity is being withheld pending consent of her family.

Police said the investigation so far indicates that the shooting is an isolated incident and officials are not looking for additional suspects.
