Maymont’s Bier-Garden to bring beer, bratwurst, vendors and festivities

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Maymont's Bier-Garden will be hosted in September, with a weekend of beverages, food, vendors and festivities for families and friends to enjoy.

The festival will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on both Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21, at Maymont, located at 1000 Westover Road in Richmond.

Visitors are encouraged to wear lederhosen or dirndl, but everyday attire is also welcome.

Attendees will be able to enjoy live music by DJ BearBonez, yard games, a polka band and German folk dancers, as well as a "Marketplatz" with local artisans.

Other festivities will include performances by Jonathan the Juggler and homebrewing demonstrations by Dan Jablow of Small Batch Brewing. Organizers said Jablow is a brewery consultant to startups and growing breweries, and serves as Director of Brewing Education at the University of Richmond's School of Professional and Continuing Studies.

Kids can enjoy an afternoon of crafts, games, entertainment and activities in the Kinderzone, hosted by Goldfish Swim School and Soccer Shots.

Folks can also try their hand at the stein-hoisting contests. In addition, a variety of Polish and Bavarian specialties will be available for purchase, as well as beer, cider and non-alcoholic beverages.

Admission is $10 per person and $6 for children ages 16 and under. Admission is free for Maymont members and participants in the Museums for All program when they present a SNAP/EBT card. 

All proceeds help Maymont care for its gardens, animals and historic collections, according to organizers.

Event admission includes entry to The Robins Nature Center from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Food and beverages can be bought separately. Tokens for beer, cider and more are $8 for a 16-ounce pour. Commemorative glass steins can be purchased as well.

Event parking will be available at the Hampton Street entrance by The Robins Nature Center and the Maymont Farm parking lots.

Tickets are non-refundable, according to organizers. The festival will be held rain or shine, except in the event of severe weather.

All three entrances will be open for admission both days.
