‘Bat Bonanza’: Here’s when to watch and learn about bats for free

POWHATAN, Va. (WRIC) — A series of free events is offering Virginians a glimpse of bats in their natural habitat.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will host "Bat Bonanza" throughout the summer and into the fall. The monthly series between April and September offers guests a chance to come face-to-face with bats safely.

According to organizers, visitors can learn about the mysterious creatures from local bat rehabilitators, identify bats in flight using specialized equipment and monitor them throughout the event.

LIST: 5 bat species found in Virginia
