Maymont’s Merry Market brings community together this holiday season

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Holiday cheer, fun activities and winter shopping brought thousands of Richmonders to Maymont's Merry Market this weekend.

The one-stop shop for holiday festivities took place on Saturday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Dec. 7, at Maymont, bringing families and shoppers together to celebrate the season.

From noon to 5 p.m. on both days, guests can find jewelry, baskets, knitted items and holiday essentials at the market. Some might even have a chance to ride the holiday train decked out in festive decorations by horticulturalists and staff.

Organizers said they expect 6,000 to 7,000 guests to visit on both days.

"My favorite part is having the whole community come out and celebrate the season," said organizer Laurie Mavica. "It's a beautiful place to experience the holiday."

The family-friendly market offers different activities for young visitors and adults. Guests can also enjoy artisanal beer and warm malt wine at the event.

Mavica said the proceeds from the market benefit Maymont and help keep the park free and open to visitors.
