Meet the new opossum ambassador at Wildlife Center of Virginia

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News recently got an exclusive meet-and-greet with the newest addition of the Wildlife Center of Virginia's ambassador team -- an opossum that is still looking for a name!

We spoke with Connor Gillespie, Director of Outreach at the Wildlife Center of Virginia, about what makes this opossum so special, how people can help pick out his name and what his responsibilities as an ambassador will be. View the full interview below.

"They're our teachers at the wildlife center," Gillespie said. "So we will take them out to programs at schools, at libraries, at different places in the community where people can see him up close,[to] learn more about possums and learn about his story too and why it's not a good idea to keep wild animals as pets."

Click here, to vote for either Powhatan, Cosmos or Mars as his new name. It costs $1, and you can vote as many times as you would like -- all proceeds go towards the care of him and all of the other opossums at the center.

Voting lasts until the end of day on Feb. 5, and whoever donates the most will be able to meet the friendly marsupial in person as well as receive a tour of the center.
