‘Mind-blowing’: Woman hit, killed by four vehicles in Chesterfield crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 27-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by four drivers while crossing Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County early Sunday morning.

The incident has left people in the area shaken -- including Gary Lane, a former law enforcement officer.

"I can't even picture four cars hitting one person," Lane said. "It's mind-blowing."

The Chesterfield Police Department said that 27-year-old Krystal Parker of Brunswick County was walking westbound along Hull Street Road near Turner Road around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 when she was hit.

The intersection, located near plenty of shops and gas stations, has plenty of activity. It does not have crosswalks or signals to assist pedestrians.

"I would have to basically walk with my own crossing guards with me to feel safe [walking] through that intersection," Lane said.

According to police, the first two drivers who hit Parker fled the scene, while the drivers of the other two vehicles remained and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities later located the first driver, 27-year-old Karen Palma Martinez, near Mockingbird Lane. The second driver, 33-year-old Kevin Bingham, was found at a nearby gas station.

Police said both were intoxicated at the time of the crash.

"DUI ... they weren't in the right frame of mind," Lane said. "They couldn't judge perception very well."

Martinez and Bingham have both been charged with driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. They were taken into Chesterfield County Jail, but both have since been released on bond.

"I've seen car accidents ... I cannot put together a 4-car-to-1-person collision," Lane said.

Authorities have not said whether the two drivers who remained at the scene will face charges.

"You have four people involved and a woman who's not here anymore -- she can't tell her side of the story," Lane said.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said additional charges are possible.
