Mitchell Rosner appointed University of Virginia Health CEO
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) -- Mitchell Rosner has been appointed by the University of Virginia (UVA) to a three-year term as executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer of UVA Health.
In a release on Friday, Sept. 12, UVA Health said that Rosner was officially named to the position during Friday's UVA Board of Visitors meeting, after serving for seven months as interim executive vice president for health affairs.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Rosner said. “I’ve devoted my career to UVA and UVA Health, so this is the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to serve my colleagues, my friends and the community that I have lived in so long.”
This appointment also comes after over two dozen chairs and leaders at UVA Health submitted a letter to UVA's rector and interim president in which they ask for Rosner to be given the role permanently, the release said.
The option for a national search was waived by UVA Interim President Paul Mahoney after reading the letter. Rector Rachel Sheridan agreed, alongside the support of the board.
Rosner has been a faculty member at the UVA School of Medicine for 21 years, and prior to his selection to lead the health system, he served as chair of the Department of Medicine.
“I’ve been fortunate and blessed to build a fulfilling career here at UVA,” Rosner said. “I’ve achieved everything I could ask for and more in my development as a physician and as a faculty member here. So the opportunity to give back and serve and help others attain their potential is just a great gift.”
