New solar panel farm installed in Powhatan County

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Dominion Energy has completed their construction on a new large scale solar panel facility in Powhatan.

The new solar facility is named Quillwort Solar and is located 35 miles west of Richmond off of Brauer Road near Powhatan County.

The solar facility has 40,00 solar panels, and is a 18 megawatt facility that can power up to 4,500 at its peak output, and spans across 150 acres.

During the construction of the panel Quillwort Solar provided roughly $29 million benefits to the state and $1.2 million to Powhatan, and according to Dominion Energy.

"Now that it’s operational, Quillwort is expected to provide an estimated $1.2 million in economic benefits annually to the state, $1.2 million to Powhatan County and will generate more than $64,000 per year in tax revenue for Powhatan County," a release from Dominion Energy read.

Since the construction of this solar plant there are now two large-scale Dominion Energy solar plants in Powhatan County.
