New York woman hit, killed by hit-and-run driver in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A New York woman has been identified as the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Henrico County late Friday night.

At about 10:40 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, officers with the Henrico County Police Division were called to the intersection of W. Broad Street and Emerywood Parkway for a report of a pedestrian struck.

When they arrived, officers found 39-year-old Tasha Baker in the roadway with "obvious signs of trauma." She died at the scene.

Though Baker was formerly of New York, police said that, at the time of the crash, she had been living in Henrico "for a period of time with no permanent address."

Investigators determined that Baker was crossing W. Broad Street when she was hit by a driver. Police said this driver then fled the scene.

Shortly after officers arrived at the scene of this incident, a vehicle in traffic on another part of W. Broad Street was hit by a driver. This driver also did not stop.

Whether or not these two hit-and-run incidents involve the same driver is still under investigation.

No further details are available as of the time of reporting.

This is not the only deadly pedestrian crash Henrico has seen in recent days. An 11-year-old girl was hit by a driver while riding her bicycle on Three Chopt Road the morning of Sunday, Aug. 24. She later died at a local hospital.
