Off the Hook: The redfish trip
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Stormtracker 8 Meteorologist Matt DiNardo was joined by special guest Simón Valencia -- of Current Culture Fly -- to talk about two fishing trips they took together for redfish. As the hosts discussed their fishing trips, DiNardo confessed fishing for redfish was a bit of a learning curve for him. "It was a chore for me, just because it was a very different style of fishing Simón, and you've talked about this time and time again -- redfish is not what I'm used to which is stream fishing," DiNardo said. Valencia lent a bit more context as to why even very experienced fisherman still have a lot to learn when taking a trip out for reds. "Correct, yeah it doesn't translate very well," Valencia responded. "It's using the same tools to hunt down a different alien in a different planet. It's a very specific approach to fishing, especially the way that I like to do it which is in extremely shallow water, side casting. It's a very visual experience and I think it creates a different kind of connection with the water and with the day and with the boat and with the fish." Make sure to visit the Current Culture Fly website to learn more about available trips and apparel. You can also book Valencia as a guide, among others, by calling 804-322-7555. “Off the Hook with Matty D” is part of WRIC NOW’s livestreamed programming. Tune in to next week’s show with an all-new guest at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
