One dead, three injured after I-85 crash in Dinwiddie

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A person is dead and three others were injured after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County on Sunday morning.

Virginia State Police said the crash took place at about 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, on I-85 South near the 61-mile marker, at the Route 460 exit in Dinwiddie.

Police said a white SUV was traveling on I-85 North when it went off the side of the interstate, hit multiple trees and caught fire.

A passenger in the SUV could not escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and another passenger suffered serious injuries and were flown to a hospital.

A passerby who tried to rescue the trapped passenger also suffered minor burns and drove himself to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
