Crews worked quickly to clear the roadway and reopened the area to traffic later in the night.

Officials said recent heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms have increased the risk of trees falling, especially in areas with saturated ground or already leaning trees.

Officials with Prince George County Fire and EMS shared reminders for drivers navigating storm-affected roads:

  • Watch for debris and unstable trees
  • Reduce speed and increase following distance
  • Avoid driving near visibly damaged or leaning trees
  • Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately

Authorities are urging drivers to slow down, stay alert and use caution during and after severe weather events.
