Over $3 million worth of narcotics seized by Virginia State Police in one week

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- As part of its ongoing statewide investigation, Virginia State Police seized over 400 pounds of narcotics -- valued at approximately $3.1 million combined -- and 10 firearms last week.

From March 27 to April 3, Virginia State Police -- in partnership with several federal and local agencies -- continued its efforts to fight crime across the Commonwealth by recovering firearms, narcotics, illegally-obtained U.S. currency and more.

Over the course of the week, state troopers seized 432 pounds of narcotics, as well as 3,700 controlled substance pills. According to state police, these narcotics would have sold for a combined $3,191,182.

This included 363.8 pounds of marijuana, nearly 60 pounds of cocaine, 8 pounds of methamphetamine, 5.6 ounces of fentanyl, 1.3 ounces of crack cocaine. 2,900 fentanyl pills and 800 ecstasy pills.

State troopers also seized 10 firearms valued at $5,000 combined, 125 explosive devices and a total of $447,475 in funds. This came in the form of four gold bars and $38,499 in U.S. currency.

Additionally, 16 gaming-enforcement tips were received and 11 human trafficking tips were received.

"The Virginia State Police remain steadfast in their mission to enhance public safety and uphold the laws throughout the Commonwealth while supporting the Governor’s initiatives on violent crime," a spokesperson for state police said. "By working in close collaboration with local, state and federal agencies, law enforcement continues to disrupt criminal enterprises and safeguard communities."
