Over 4,000 Central Virginia homes, businesses were without power due to severe storms

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Over 4,000 Central Virginia homes and businesses were without power Tuesday night as severe storms batter the region.

Severe thunderstorms hit the Central Virginia area the evening of Tuesday, July 8, bringing high-speed winds and heavy rainfall. These storms caused power outages in parts of the region.

As of 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, about 4,114 Dominion Energy customers in Central Virginia had no power, with significant outages in the following localities:

  • Chesterfield County: 2,829 homes and businesses without power
  • Essex County: 539 homes and businesses without power
  • Sussex County: 303 homes and businesses without power
  • Hanover County: 183 homes and businesses without
  • Henrico County: 164 homes and businesses without power
  • Richmond: 96 homes and businesses without power
