Over 9,000 Central Virginia homes, businesses were without power due to severe storms

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Over 9,000 homes and businesses were without power on Thursday as severe storms battered Central Virginia.

Central Virginia experienced severe thunderstorms and flash floods on the afternoon of Thursday, June 26 -- particularly in the Richmond region. This severe weather caused power outages throughout the area.

As of 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, about 7,739 Dominion Energy customers are without power. Those outages include homes and businesses in the following localities:

  • Powhatan County: 5,185 homes and businesses
  • Chesterfield County: 1,347 homes and businesses
  • Henrico County: 557 homes and businesses
  • City of Richmond: 482 homes and businesses
  • Buckingham County: 168 homes and businesses

Power had mostly been restored to all localities by Friday morning. At the peak of the outage, over 9,100 customers were impacted.
