Petersburg Fire Rescue responds to heavy fire at Best Inn Hotel, 40 displaced

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services responded to a hotel fire in Petersburg on Sunday.
On Sunday, Jan. 11, Petersburg Fire Rescue & Emergency Services shared a post stating that units responded to a fire at the Best Inn Hotel, located at 555 E. Wythe Street, on Sunday afternoon.
Once on the scene, firefighters found heavy fire on the right side of the hotel. The fire was under control in 12 minutes.
The Petersburg Fire Marshal's Office stated that 40 people have been displaced from the hotel and were moved by bus to a Flagship Inn. Additionally, the fire started from an air conditioning unit.
Fire crews are still on scene and have advised the public to avoid the area until it is considered safe.
