Petersburg makes preparations ahead of winter storm
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- With a winter storm approaching, the City of Petersburg's Department of Public Works and Utilities has began making preparations for treatment on the roads and bridges.
Beginning early Tuesday morning, the city will start treating the primary roads and bridges with salt, sand and other chemicals. According to Petersburg, the crews will move on to the secondary roads after the primary roads have been treated.
The winter storm is expected to bring in a combination of snow, sleet and rain -- the Storm Response Team, along with the police and fire department, will work closely to ensure public safety.
The City of Petersburg is urging residents to stay off of the roads during the winter storm to allow crews to effectively clear the roads. Community residents are also recommended to use off-street parking to ensure that snowplows can move through the roads successfully.
