Petersburg National Battlefield to host Junior Ranger Day next Saturday

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- With National Parks Week right around the corner, the Petersburg National Battlefield will host a Junior Ranger Day next Saturday.

The interactive activities available for all ages will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, which is National Junior Ranger Day, as National Park Week runs from that Saturday to Sunday, April 27.

The event aims to celebrate and promote exploration, education and preservation of the nation's parks, according to a social post from the park.

The park will host programs at the Petersburg National Battlefield, located off Route 36 east of Petersburg. The park added that activities will range from visiting a Ranger at Stop 3 on the Eastern Front Driving Tour for a beginner's Birding program to learning about bird adaptations and borrowing binoculars to embark on a birding adventure.

After learning about birds and their adaptations, the park encourages attendees to grab a bingo sheet and binoculars and explore their trail system to receive a Junior Ranger Day button.
