PGCPS Athletic Fall of Fame chooses inductees for April ceremony

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Prince George County Public Schools have chosen the latest additions to their hall of fame, which will be celebrated at a ceremony in April.

As of 2021, the district's hall of fame has showcased a growing list of people out of Prince George County that have contributed significantly to athletics within the community.

The inductees will be celebrated at a ceremony on Saturday, April 11 at Prince George High School in the Commons area located at 7801 Laurel Spring Road starting at 5:30 p.m.

This year's class includes:

  • Jackie Bradley, Jr. -- a standout at the University of South Carolina and the 2010 College World Series Most Outstanding Player, Mr. Bradley went on to be selected 40th overall by the Boston Red Sox in 2011 before making his Major League debut in 2013.
  • Reggie Williams -- an impact basketball player for VMI and later multiple NBA teams, Mr. Williams remains the school’s all-time scoring leader after leading the nation in scoring in both 2007 and 2008.
  • Russell Smelley -- a distinguished track and field athlete for the University of Richmond, Mr. Smelley set seven school records during his collegiate career and earned All-American honors in 1976.
  • Emily Fletcher -- serving as head coach of the Northwestern University golf program, Ms. Fletcher is a national champion and one of the most accomplished coaches in collegiate golf.
  • Ariel Stephenson -- competing for both Wake Forest University and George Washington University, Ms. Stephenson surpassed the 1,000-point milestone during her career at Wake Forest and earned All-Academic and All-Rookie honors.
  • Bob Wood -- serving as founder of the Prince George Youth Wrestling Program in 1992 and launching the Royal Kids Classic youth tournament two years later, Mr. Wood helped establish a strong foundation for local wrestling.
  • Pat Waguespack -- enjoying a coaching career spanning more than 35 seasons in both softball and football, Mr. Waguespack earned a total of 449 career wins—255 at Prince George High School and 194 at Dinwiddie High School.
  • Bill Russell -- having dedicated nearly 30 years to Prince George County Public Schools as a basketball coach, Mr. Russell guided his teams to five district championships and achieved over 400 career wins.
