RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The 18th annual Cone Parade took place in Richmond's Carytown on New Year's Day, allowing the community to bring in the new year with creativity and positivity.
Dozens gathered in the parking lot of the Aquarian Bookshop at noon on Thursday, Jan. 1 to begin the parade in their festive outfits, as spectators lined the sidewalks waiting to witness the unique designs.
According to the Cone Parade website, the cone is a powerful symbol that focuses on “bringing forth and focusing energy.”
8News spoke with one participant, who said they love to see the reaction of those that might not be familiar with the tradition.
"I love when we walk through Carytown and the people who have no idea what's going on -- just seeing how bewildered they are," the participant said.
