PHOTOS: Carytown Watermelon Festival returns for 43rd year
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The annual Carytown Watermelon Festival returned for the 43rd year on Sunday, bringing with it a sweet slice of summer.
The festival, which ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, along Cary Street, and featured than 100 vendors, live music on several stages, a kids zone and 3,000 watermelons.
Showcasing all the great Carytown style, the event featured 25 bands and has become the largest one-day festival in the state.
The festival included foods from local vendors, shipping and of course, watermelon.

Ben Berumez, singer/songwriter based in Richmond and books guests and acts for the festival, said the best thing about festival is the community aspect -- what he calls "the local flair, the local flavor."
"For me personally, my favorite part about the Watermelon Festival has got to be the music," Berumez said. "Got to be the performances."
"I think this is important for Richmond just because it's so good to have community events, where you get to see again, the local flavor, a lot of different performers or the vendors and whatnot," Berumez said. "Especially, even though it was a little while ago, coming out of COVID, something people I think really missed was events like this. Getting out and being with your community."
While he initially wanted to perform at the Watermelon Festival, Berumez began running one of the stages for his band, Saint Square -- which performed during this year's festival -- bringing it full crciel
