RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Children's Entrepreneur Market shed light on young entrepreneurial innovations throughout the Richmond region Sunday morning, propelling kids further into the world of business.
The event was held at the Carytown Farmers Market in Richmond from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, giving young entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their innovative products and services -- from handmade crafts to treats.
This year, Linden Whelpley sold earrings of all sizes and colors, after three months. She said that she bought some clay after her mother explained to her how they were made, leading her to sell $3 studs, $5 stud packs and large and small dangles.
"So I got really excited so we bought some clay and just started getting with it."
"It's really fun to be able to blend colors and turn them into something that I like, [because] I love wearing earrings and I feel like you can express yourself through them," Whelpley said.
Namita Toshniwal, on the other hand, sold notebooks, sketchbooks, diaries and other stationery and emphasized the importance for children her age to explore their creativity.
"Summer's coming up, and I think a lot of kids would be bored if they can't go outside because it's too hot," Toshniwal said. "Through my own experience, I love writing and drawing -- sketchbooks and diaries are really fun."
"It's a great opportunity to learn. I feel like more than selling, it's more important to learn rather than just do it."
Annabelle Evans and Allison Evans, who sell ice cream, Italian soda and cotton candy, began their business to prepare them for their futures, as both girls hope to major in business during their college studies.
"I think that this would be good for kids so that kids could get some experience with business and other necessities for the future," Allison Evans said.
"I hope we can gain experience so that I can sell my pastries to my customers when I own my own cafe," Annabelle Evans said. "We serve every ice cream and drink with love and want everyone to have an amazing experience."
