HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond region community celebrated Lebanese culture at the 40th annual Lebanese Food Festival in Henrico County this weekend.

According to an announcement from the Lebanese Food Festival, the event was held at St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, located at 4611 Sadler Road in Glen Allen and ran on three separate days:

  • 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 16
  • 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 17
  • 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 18

Organizers said the event will showcase authentic Lebanese cuisine, including savory kabobs, creamy hummus, crispy falafel and baklava, as well as drinks like Lebanese beer and wine. It will also feature traditional Lebanese music, dance and a playground for kids.

Sandra Joseph Brown, who has been involved since the very start of this event, said she's been "embracing our culture and our food in the Richmond community, but it goes beyond the Richmond community now. It has spread, so people from everywhere come."

Due to their 40th year, Brown said they are introducing a soft serve ice cream with Lebanese toppings.

"It's their birthright. It's what they have about culture and family and the importance of it, and how it entices other people to be more involved with their families," she added.

She said the best part of Lebanese Food Festival is "being able to share it."

According to Brown, the first festival started as a picnic with friends.
