RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A ceremonial signing was held on Monday to commemorate the collaboration of city and project leaders for the Diamond District Partners (DDP) development.

On Monday, Oct. 20, officials with the city of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Navigators Baseball, LLC gathered to provide remarks on the project's progress.

The DDP is a redevelopment project that will transform 67 acres of underutilized land into the Diamond District, while working to provide a new home for VCU and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

The event took place at the Sports Backers Stadium. It featured Mayor Danny Avula, Chief Administrative Officer Odie Donald II, owner and CEO of Navigators Baseball, LLC Lou DiBella and Vice President and Director of Athletics at VCU Ed McLaughlin, among other leaders.

"This is a model of how a university, municipality and professional sports organization can come together to make really, really important change happen," McLaughlin said. "This is the model of how it should be and Richmond is leading the way in doing this."
