PHOTOS: Third wreath-laying ceremony held in honor of Henrico officer Trey Sutton
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A wreath-laying ceremony was held on Monday morning in memory of a 24-year-old officer with the Henrico County Police Division who was killed in the line of duty in 2022.
On the morning of Monday, March 31, a wreath-laying ceremony was held in memory of 24-year-old Trey M. Sutton. Friends, family and colleagues gathered to "remember the sacrifice he gave for this community," according to a social post from the Henrico County Police Division.
This is the third such wreath-laying held for Sutton.

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, Sutton was driving a police cruiser with another Henrico officer and an inmate being taken to Henrico County Jail West as passengers when a driver ran a red light and struck them.
He later died from his injuries on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
The driver, 18-year-old Jeffrey Adam Lankford, took an Alford Plea for involuntary manslaughter in May 2023.
At the time of his death, Sutton was freshly out of the police academy and was to be married in three months.
