RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Runners, walkers and supporters united on Saturday as Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K commenced, bringing warm smiles to an otherwise chilly morning.
The race took place on Saturday, April 12 beginning at around 8:30 a.m. with a wave start -- meaning that start times were staggered depending on people's predicted paces.
With an estimated 25,000 runners participating, the streets of Richmond were packed with friends, family and helpers to cheer the athletes on.

8News got the chance to speak with Johnny Villani on Sunday about this being his third year running in the race, following a subarachnoid hemorrhage around four years ago that left him unable to walk.
"It's around the anniversary of my brain bleed so it's like, I want to show myself I can do it, come back from that, like, just come back from death and rebirth into something new, something a lot better," Villani said.
