Plans for large-scale data center in Hanover withdrawn

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Plans have been withdrawn for a 400-acre data center project set to be built along Ashland Road after pushback from Hanover County leaders and many concerned residents.

South Anna District Supervisor Susan P. Dibble announced during a Hanover County Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 28 that she was notified of the withdrawal of plans for the Hunting Hawk Technology Center earlier that afternoon.

"I believe that this process that we have, which includes community meetings and a lot of public input, makes a good project better," Dibble said. "And it weeds out the bad projects, and we have weeded out this one."

This announcement comes after residents of Hanover, Henrico and Goochland counties spoke out against the data center project, and Hanover leaders followed suit, recommending a denial of the data center campus over a week ago.

Leaders and residents alike cited concerns about the project's potential impacts, including increased traffic, construction disruption, environmental effects, water usage, visual impacts and noise.
