Police activity on Petersburg’s Farmer Street on Tuesday was not ICE, officials say
PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The law enforcement presence seen on Farmer Street in Petersburg on Tuesday was reportedly police activity and not U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, according to officials.
In the evening on Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Petersburg Bureau of Police announced on social media that it was aware of police activity on Farmer Street.
Police said this activity did not involve ICE operations or immigration enforcement in Petersburg.
"The situation was handled to ensure public safety, and there is no ongoing threat to the community," the post said. "We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as officers carried out their duties."
For verified information in the event of police activity in the city, police said residents should rely on the official communications from the city of Petersburg and the Petersburg Bureau of Police.
