Police investigate hit-and-run involving alleged drunk driver that left 25-year-old dead

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 25-year-old is dead following a hit-and-run incident involving an e-bike and an alleged drunk driver in Augusta County on Sunday.
The hit-and-run crash happened on Sunday, Sept. 14 at around 9 p.m. when a Kia Sorento that was traveling northbound on Stuarts Draft Highway (Route 340) hit an e-bike near the intersection of Ladd Road, according to Virginia State Police.
The e-bike rider involved in the incident has been identified as 25-year-old Dylan C. Knowles of Waynesboro, Va., who police said died at the scene.
Officials said the driver of the Kia initially "fled the scene but was later taken into custody with the assistance of Waynesboro Police Department."
The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Samuel W. Call of Waynesboro and has been charged with driving while intoxicated and felony hit-and-run.
Call is currently being held at the Middle River Regional Jail.
