Police investigate ‘suspicious situation’ after woman found with ‘graze type wound’ in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield Police are investigating a "suspicious situation" after officers found a woman with a "graze type wound" to the neck when responding to the report of an assault with a deadly weapon on Monday.

At 6:05 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to the 12700 block of Deep Well Road for the report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who had a "graze type wound" on her neck, and witnesses reportedly told police they heard gunshots in the area.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that the wound may have been caused by a stray gunshot.

Officers searched the area, but reportedly found no evidence of a shooting.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

"This is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public," police said.
