Police investigating apparent abduction attempt at Chesterfield library

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Police are investigating what appeared to be an abduction attempt at a Chesterfield County library.
The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating an apparent attempted abduction that took place at about 2:38 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Clover Hill Library, located at 6701 Deer Run Drive.
A 3-year-old boy was playing in front of Clover Hill Library when, according to police, he was approached by a woman, who then picked him up. A nearby caregiver immediately confronted the woman.
"After a brief struggle, the woman released the child and ran off toward Hull Street [Road]," police said.
No one was hurt during this incident.
Police shared a photo of the incident around 4:15 p.m. seeking assistance from the public in identifying the woman. Shortly before 6 p.m., police said that investigators had identified the woman and learned that she has cognitive disabilities.
"At this time, there is no ongoing danger to the public," police said.
