Police urge Central Virginia gun owners to be responsible on New Years Eve
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Law enforcement agencies across Central Virginia are reminding gun owners to avoid celebratory gunfire on New Year's Eve. A social media post from Richmond Police emphasized how random gunfire is reckless and dangerous. The department says it will have officers and senior command staff stationed throughout the city in an effort to keep the city safe during the busy overnight hours. If anyone in the city has photos or video of someone shooting on New Year's Eve they are encouraged to send them to Media.Relations@rva.gov. "It is incredibly dangerous to shoot firearms into the air, as it could accidentally injure or kill someone," a similar social post from the Henrico County Police Division reads. "What goes up must come down!" Police also warn that fireworks are not permitted in Henrico County. Anyone in the county who wishes to report fireworks or gunfire should call 804-501-5000.
