‘Pop, pop, pop’: Neighbor recalls gunfire outside of City Beach bar

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two men are hurt after shots were fired Sunday night outside a popular Richmond bar, according to police.
The Richmond Police Department said officers were dispatched to a shooting call outside of City Beach Bar on West Cary Street around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.
"We saw someone leave on a stretcher … it’s definitely scary," said neighbor Melissa Pacheco, who witnessed the scene unfolding Sunday night.
Police said officers found a man inside the bar with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators said he was shot outside. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

"It was like, 'Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop' … and we immediately were like, ‘That’s not normal," Pacheco said. "The weird part was that we heard the 'pops,' [which] we weren’t sure but assumed were gunshots, but then didn’t hear any kind of ruckus or yelling or people running around."
Police said another man was also hurt during the incident. He wasn't shot, but was struck by some kind of object. Investigators said that the man took himself to the hospital for treatment.
Pacheco said violence is unusual for the area.
"City Beach … I mean, that’s a place I have gone and watched football," she said. "It’s definitely something that I’d be a little bit more kind of cognizant of my surroundings. I’ve been here for three years. It’s usually people like me -- you know, young couples, or students -- so you don’t really think about stuff like that happening."
