Prince George County Fire & EMS remind community of smoke detector importance after house fire

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (WRIC) -- Fire and EMS crews in Prince George County are reminding residents of the importance of having working smoke detectors after responding to residential fire on July 26.
On Saturday July 26, Prince George Fire and EMS crews responded to a reported fire inside of a residence at around 12:40 p.m.

When crews arrived, a dryer that was on fire within the residents, and after it was extinguished, it was then removed from the home.
According to Prince George County Fire and EMS, there were no reported injuries, however crews do want to remind residents of the importance of having a working operational smoke detector.

"Remember, working smoke detectors are critical for home safety because they provide early warning in the event of a fire, significantly increasing the chances of survival and reducing the risk of injury or death," according to a Facebook post by County Fire and EMS.
In addition, they also share that fires can often produce smoke as well as toxic gases that can incapacitate people before they're even aware of any danger especially at night.
"A working smoke detector sounds an alarm as soon as smoke is detected, giving occupants crucial seconds to escape or take action before the fire becomes uncontrollable," Prince George County Fire and EMS.
