Prince George Farmers Market to host First Responders Day

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Prince George County Farmers Market is set to host a First Responders Day celebration next weekend.

According to a county release, the celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prince George Farmers Market, located at Scott Memorial Park at 6680 Courthouse Road.

This event is free to the public and first responders who attend can register for special door prizes. As a result of community donations, there are over 100 raffle prizes available. Those participating must be present to enter the raffle, but do not need to be present to win.

The day will start with a Public Safety Parade, which will head down Scott Memorial Park Drive and will feature law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, mascots and more.

The schedule for the day's events also includes:

  • 9 a.m. to noon -- On-site pet adoption event
  • 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. -- K-9 demonstration featuring Officer Dillard and K-9 Maggie Mae
  • 10:15 a.m. -- Life Evac helicopter landing and display (departs at 11:45 a.m.)
  • 10:30 a.m. -- Story time with Officer Magen Moreno
  • 11:30 a.m. -- Vehicle extrication demonstration
  • Throughout the day -- giveaways from police, fire, sheriff and emergency communications

The county also said that some activities may be adjusted depending on if an emergency arises.
