Prince William Police respond to shooting at senior home in Woodbridge
WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WRIC) -- Today, April 26, Prince William Police responded to an officer involved shooting at a shooting at the Westminster at Lake Ridge Senior Living Home.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9:58 a.m. when two Prince William officers were called to the scene with reports of a 'male in crisis armed with a knife.'
According to the Prince William County Police Department, the officers gave commands to the 26-year-old man involved, which he ignored resulting in officers firing multiple times, after which the the man began to attack the victim involved, identified as a 91-year-old woman.
After attacking the victim officers then fired there weapons again. Officers then provided aid to both the victim and man involved. The victim was flown to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries but is expected to be ok--the 26-year-old man involved died at the scene.
Another woman at the scene was not injured--no officers were injured during the incident.
During the investigation, police determined that the parties involved were related, and are waiting to confirm the identity of the 26-year-old man involved.
The involved officers have been put on routine administrative leave at this time.
