RABID organization encourages STEM learning with combat robots

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Ahead of its Turkey Brawl event on Saturday, Richmond Area Bot Instigated Destruction (RABID) is sharing how it encourages folks to get interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). RABID is a nonprofit organization that aims to make learning fun through combat robots. 8News Anchors Delaney Hall and Autumn Childress spoke with Chad Reamer in the morning on Thursday, Nov. 20 about what the group has to offer. "We try to promote STEM to the community, from ages 3 all the way to 60 or 70 we have fighting, so that they can learn. All these things are 3D printed, they design them on CAD software, they have to print them out, they have to do the electronics, solder, all those things," Reamer explained. In addition to building these robots, Reamer said the group hosts events where they're put to the test in the ring to find out who's robot will win. Reamer brought some examples of demo robots to the studio and shared each of their features and capabilities. The group will host the Turkey Brawl, where multiple robots will compete, on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Bethany Place Baptist Church, located at 1501 South Providence Road in Chesterfield County. For more information on the event, visit RABID's website.
