Raffle offers chance to see peregrine falcon chicks
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) has partnered with Triple Crossing Beer to offer people a special opportunity to see peregrine falcon chicks.
Nature fans in the area may be familiar with the Richmond Falcon Cam, which allows people to see the peregrine falcon couple in their nest on top of the Riverfront Plaza building in downtown Richmond.
The falcon's are currently incubating four eggs, according to the department, and once they hatch the next phase of falcon season will begin -- chick banding.
After the chicks have been alive for around a month, DWR biologists will attach identification bands to each individual chick after collecting data. The bands allow the biologists to find them in the future as they migrate and potentially start their own falcon families.
The raffle, held in partnership between DWR and Triple Crossing Beer, will offer four falcon fans the opportunity to be there when the chick banding takes place. The ticket options and pricing include -- 1 ticket for $10, 3 tickets for $25, 5 tickets for $40 and 10 tickets for $75.
You can chose to enter through DWR or Triple Crossing Beer, with each organization offering different prize packages, which may include a brewery tour, t-shirts and more.
The winners of the raffle will be drawn on May 15 -- for more information about how to enter, visit the DWR website.
