Rams slaughter Spiders 90-49 in Capital City Classic
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- VCU dominated Richmond in a historic 90-49 victory at the Siegel Center. Graduate guard Max Shulga led the Rams with 20 points as the team shot a season-best 65 percent from the field. The win marked VCU’s largest margin of victory in the history of their rivalry with Richmond. Shulga finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Joe Bamisile and Zeb Jackson each added 10 points. Luke Bamgboye contributed eight points and four rebounds. Richmond’s Dusan Nesokovic led his team with 12 points. VCU shot 65 percent from the field and made 16 of 29 three-pointers. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and converted them into 25 points. Richmond struggled offensively, shooting just 33 percent from the field and missing all seven of their three-point attempts in the first half. VCU jumped out to a 14-3 lead early and never looked back. The Rams improved to 61-33 all-time against Richmond. Their 90 points were the most they’ve scored in an A-10 game this season. VCU will stay home to face La Salle on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
