Randolph Macon Softball claims their seat in NCAA DIII Softball College World Series Championships

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Randolph Macon's Softball team claimed their victory over Moravian University this Friday, May 23 at Blue and Grey Softball Field.

The Yellow Jackets beat Moravian 1-0 with both teams keeping the game scoreless throughout the first six innings. According to Randolph Macon athletics, this Bethlehem Super Regional game was a very pivotal game for both teams.

New Kent's own Grace Ellis of Randolph Macon, had a great game going into the sixth inning, and broke her own single season records in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched.

However, Kaley Hoffman of Moravian singled into the left field for the Greyhounds to lead them into the sixth inning.

Ellis recorded 10 strikeouts for the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets within the first five innings to keep Moravian off the score board.

The Greyhounds followed this up with pinch runner Leah Chladny who ran for the Greyhounds followed by Freshman Kayley Hoffman's single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt with one out. However, Ellis ended the the scoring opportunity with a strikeout and flyout to prevent Moravian from taking the lead.

It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh inning that Randolph Macon Sophomore Blayne Talley, placed a single into left field for the game winning run for the Yellow Jackets with the help of Senior Kayla Davis.

Randolph Macon will now advance to its first NCAA DIII Softball College World Series appearance since 2019, and second appearance in program history.

According to Randolph Macon, Senior Gracie Ellis also broke the single season record for games started after her 31st on Friday.

Randolph Macon will head to Bloomington, Illinois next week with the first game taking place on Thursday.
