Registration opens for Engage Hanover Citizens Academy

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County residents have an opportunity to learn how their local government works from the inside out through the upcoming Engage Hanover Citizens Academy (EHCA).

Registration for the 2025–2026 program opens Friday, Aug. 1, with the first session set to begin Sept. 8.

Now entering its second year, EHCA is a 12-session program designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at county operations. Participants will experience hands-on learning through presentations, tours and interactive activities led by county staff at various locations throughout Hanover.

“The Citizens Academy is a great way for residents to see how we serve the community every day and to connect directly with the people behind those services,” said County Administrator John A. Budesky. “We hope participants walk away with not only a better understanding of County operations, but also a stronger sense of civic connection and pride in Hanover.”

The program includes a special reception and attendance at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Sept. 24. Graduation is scheduled for March 25. All sessions will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Space is limited and registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Interested residents can sign up here.
