Repairs begin for Texas Beach pedestrian bridge

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Repairs to the Texas Beach pedestrian bridge along the James River have begun in Richmond, according to a city spokesperson.

In a video posted to social media, Andrew Alli, trails and greenway superintendent for Richmond Parks and Recreation, said long-awaited repairs to the Texas Beach pedestrian bridge had begun.

He said the North Bank Trail has been rerouted around the construction site while repairs are being made.

"For the next year, this trail will serve as the official North Bank Trail," Alli said.

Alli urged visitors to be cautious in the area, and shared a reminder that there is not yet access to Texas Beach.

"As a reminder, there is no access to Texas Beach currently," he said. "Crossing the train tracks will result in a ticket and possible delays to the construction project.

In January, Richmond Parks and Recreation announced that construction would begin "soon."

The bridge closed in Sept. 2022 after it was determined to be structurally unsafe during an inspection. It was constructed from steel and concrete in the 1970s.
