Richmond Animal Care and Control warns pet owners of scam
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) warned pet owners on Wednesday of a scam involving people using the organization's dispatch number fraudulently to ask people for money.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Feb. 12, RACC urged people to be careful when answering calls from the number 804-646-5573, which is the shelter's dispatch line, as scammers are reportedly using the number to call people and tell them that their lost pet has been hit by a car and asking for money to start surgery.
The animal shelter advises people that it will never call to ask for money, and it is currently investigating the inappropriate use of the shelter's number.
