Richmond announces start of $37 million transportation infrastructure project

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond's Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced a new $37 million transportation infrastructure improvement project along Hull Street, with construction to start at the end of April.

The project, which is set to begin on Monday, April 28, aims to improve multimodal safety, operational organization and streetscape enhancements, according to the department, with construction occurring along Hull Street between Hey Road and Warwick Road.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in two years and is financed by the Federal Smart Scale and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds, as well as city and state resources.

The new program will include a multimodal transportation corridor with a path for shared use. This aims to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians and improve traffic volume and user access.

The city added other advancements to the project will include:

  • Street lighting
  • New sidewalks
  • Signage and pavement markings
  • Storm drainage improvements
  • Landscaping
  • Traffic improvements
  • Pavement overlay and widening
  • New curb and gutters
  • Sewer and utility improvements
