Richmond church honors Martin Luther King, Jr. with worship service
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Riverview Baptist Church in Richmond celebrated "Unity" Sunday to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On Sunday, Jan. 19, Riverview Baptist Church celebrated "Unity" Sunday with a worship service that honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with this year's theme being "coming together as a community in service and spirit." Fennon Henderson, deacon at Riverview Baptist Church, said the church has done "Unity" Sunday for years, but this year was the first Sunday the church was able to do the event after COVID. "So as the different fraternities, sororities and other organizations come and fellowship with us once again, we can start reconnecting -- actually as I talked about in the sermon today -- so we can do that which God has called us to do," Branch said. During the service, Branch said the church presented a gift to the KLM Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to students with academic needs.
