Richmond Department of Public Works set to begin intersection improvement project on Overbrook Road

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond's Department of Public Works (DPW) is set to begin an intersection improvement project on Overbrook Road at Tazwell Street and Fendall Avenue later this month.

Construction will begin on Monday, June 30, weather permitting, to replace the aging traffic signal equipment at the intersection, according to the City of Richmond. The equipment will be removed and replaced with all-way stop controls.

In a press release, Richmond shared its guidelines for all-way stop signs:

  • Coming to a complete stop even if there are no other visible vehicles
  • Always stop for people who are crossing the street
  • The first vehicle arrive and stop at the intersection is the first to go
    • If two or more vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the right side has the right-of-way

According to the City of Richmond, residents can expect to see the traffic control signals switched to an "all red flashing pattern for a week." New all-way stop signs will also be installed on all sides.

During the week of July 7, the removal of the traffic control signals will begin with intermittent closures. Once all equipment has been removed, the all-way stop signs will provide traffic control at the intersection.

The city asks that drivers give construction workers extra space and slow down when they see orange cones in the work zone.
