Richmond DPU says reported “sulfur-like odor” issue has been resolved

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond's Department of Public Utilities (DPU) recently announced that the issue of a "sulfur-like, rotten-egg," odor in resident's tap-water has been resolved.

Reports of the issue initially came in on Thursday, Sept. 11 after DPU stated that they received reports of a sulfur-like odor in tap water.

In the post on Sept. 11, DPU shared this on the issue, "Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has received reports regarding a sulfur-like odor in tap water. We take all concerns about water quality very seriously. Our team is actively investigating to determine any potential causes resulting from the City's Water Treatment Plant or in the distribution system. The water remains safe to use."

In an X post from the DPU on Monday, Sept. 15, officials said "all reports of customers noticing a sulfur-like 'rotten-egg' odor in their tap water have been resolved."
